Window Of Tolerance
The Window of Tolerance(WOT) was created by Dr. Dan Siegel as the optimal zone in which a person would be able to function and deal with day-to-day stress most effectively. It is the optimal arousal state in which we feel our emotions are tolerable and we can manage the experience we are in. When we are outside of our WOT, our nervous system goes into survival mode —-fight, flight or freeze. We either feel overwhelmed and go into “hyperarousal” (fight or flight) or we can shut down and go into “hypoarousal” (freeze).
